Most of the gay bars on Old Compton Street are closed and events have been postponed.

“It really is very quiet on the gay map of London and it’s such a difference from the Pride celebrations that took place at the weekend. There rally is a very sombre mood in the capital,” said Gaydar Radio's Yannick Lawry.

多くのゲイ・バーやオールド・コンプトン通りの店は閉まっている。

Gaydarラジオ社のYannick Lawry 氏は、爆破テロのあった時間にロンドン中心地にいた。

“Everyone is calm, but we feel under a state of siege and the stress levels are rising. We have been advised not to travel and stay in our office. People are beginning to think they might have to book a hotel and stay in London tonight.

“All the main roads have been shut by the police and it seems the police are stopping traffic entering central London and telling them to go another way.

“You get the feeling that we’re slightly removed form the experience, but the general feeling is that we know something is amiss. It’s not panic, but people are determined to get home.

“A lot of people are going to start their journey on foot and hope that when they get out of the center they will be able to get the rest of the way home.”

London's openly gay Deputy Assistant Commissioner, Brian Paddick, is on the scene.

A statement on the Metropolitan Police website says: “We are advising members of the public not to travel into London. Public transport in London will be affected in the next few days.

London: BLASTS ON TUBES AND BUS [GCN]

Israel was not warned about possible terror attacks in London before a series of blasts ripped through the city, Foreign Minister Silvan Shalom said Thursday.

A Foreign Ministry official, speaking on condition of anonymity, had said earlier that British police warned the Israeli Embassy in London of possible terror attacks minutes before the first explosion.

Israel was holding an economic conference in a hotel over the London subway stop where one of the blasts occurred. Israeli Finance Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was supposed to attend the conference, but "after the first explosion our finance minister received a request not to go anywhere," Shalom said.

Letter of Bertrand Delanoe, mayor of Paris addressed to the mayor of London following the attacks

By Mr. Bertrand Delanoe

Mister the Mayor,

I learned with stupor the criminal attacks which struck this morning your city and which made, according to estimates alas provisional, several tens of victims.

In the name of Parisian and the Parisian ones, I make a point of expressing you our indignation and our whole solidarity with the inhabitants of London, and the people English as a whole, and wishes to reaffirm you our total determination to fight against terrorism, whatever are the forms and the pretexts.

In these terrible circumstances, I would be grateful to you to agree to transmit to the families and to the close relations victims my most sincere condolences and my feelings of deep sympathy.

Sincerely yours

Bertrand Delanoe

London wakes up to terrorist tragedy [Gay.com UK]

Yesterday afternoon, Deputy Assistant Commissioner Brian Paddick confirmed to the media that there had been 4 bomb blasts, the first taking place in between Aldgate and Liverpool Street tube stations at 8.51am.

ロンドン市警察ブライアン・パディック警視総監補佐代理(Deputy Assistant Commissioner Brian Paddick)は、メディアで会見。

Clearly shocked by the attacks, and close to tears, he said the bombs were a "cowardly attack" and that London would not be divided by them.

"[The attack] was an indiscriminate attempt to slaughter, irrespective of any considerations for age, for class, for religion or whatever," he told reporters.

"That isn't an ideology, it isn't even a perverted faith. It is just an indiscriminate attempt at mass murder and we know what the objective is. They seek to divide Londoners. They seek to turn Londoners against each other."

"Londoners will not be divided by this cowardly attack. They will stand together in solidarity alongside those who have been injured and those who have been bereaved and this is why I'm proud to be the Mayor of that city."

Political and religious leaders have condemned the terrorist attacks that took place in London yesterday.

Prime Minister Tony Blair said the attacks were "terrible and tragic".

"When they try to intimidate us, we will not be intimidated," he said.

This is not a fight between Muslims and the rest of us. It is a civil war within Islam, between democratic Muslims and Wahhabi fundamentalists who want to enslave or kill them. Yassin Dijali, 31, says, “It could have been our children on those trains too. This is where we belong. These people are insane.”

(テロは)ムスリムと残りの私たちとの戦闘ではない。イスラム内の内乱である──民主的なムスリムワッハーブ派原理主義者たちとの間の。

London’s response to the attacks is subtly different to other cities’. Like New York, we have our pictures of the missing-presumed-dead, but there is no visceral nationalism, and I have not seen a single Union Jack. Unlike Madrid, I could find no backlash against our political leaders (or at least, not yet); people seemed to react as if this was not a political act but a natural disaster, with no deeper causes than the tsunami.
