「yes」の「カヴァー・ボーイ」になっているトニー・ヤン主演の台湾映画『僕の恋、彼の秘密』が、12月3日より新宿武蔵野館他で封切られる。
とくに新宿武蔵野館では「グッドフィーリング・ペア割引」をやっていて、
毎週日曜日最終回、男女、同性、親友、兄弟 etc.

台湾では2004年4月にたった4館という規模で封切られたこの作品は口コミが口コミを呼び、若者たちを中心に一大センセーションとなる大ヒットを記録した。物語は台北で出会った2人の青年の恋の物語。いわゆる“ゲイ・ムービー”である。しかし、これまでの“ゲイ・ムービー”の暗さとは違い、この作品は明るさ、爽やかさを前面に打ち出している。台湾の多くの若者を虜にした要因もそこにある。
この作品『僕の恋、彼の秘密』はそのタイトルから想像できる方もいるかもしれないが、ゲイ映画である。台湾でゲイとなるとちょっと意外というか、想像がつかない方も多いと思う。僕自身も全く想像がつかなかったのだが、1987年の戒厳令解除以降、様々な面での解放、改革が進んだ台湾の中でも最も大きなもののひとつがゲイの人権運動であり、団体の創設、雑誌の創刊などビジネス面での大きな盛り上がりにも繋がってきているのだという。実は知らなかっただけで、ゲイの存在は台湾でも当たり前のものになっているのだろう。

Working safely within the familiar romantic framework of desire, consummation, loss and reconciliation, Ms. Chen has created a charmingly cosmopolitan world where characters express themselves in a polyglot of Mandarin, Cantonese, English and occasionally French. Though Tien's ebullient bartender friend, Yu (the delightful King Chin, whose expressive face is that of a natural clown), has a white boyfriend, the difficulties in their relationship are work- rather than race-related.
This gay paradise may be rife with stereotypes - and completely devoid of women - but the movie's breeziness and buoyant good humor (as when Tien is propositioned by an amorous plumber, played by Yang Tze-Long) are difficult to resist. No one here is mean or spiteful; everyone just wants love to prevail.

That Formula 17 was so successful was a shock given the fact that the entire film has no women. Better yet, the film is constructed in such a way that the audience can assume that every character in the romantic comedy is a gay man.
In Hollywood, this idea would have been stricken before a script was even written; in Taiwan, post-Chu, post-Hou filmmakers have a hazy conception of what mainstream audiences want, so anything goes, even a conceit as seemingly radical as a gay utopia.
The story is standard fare with a twist. A bashful country bumpkin named Tien (Tony Yang) treks north to Taipei to rendezvous with a chat room acquaintance. The meeting is a disaster but soon Tien falls for the notorious playboy Bai. What follows is essentially boy wants boy, boy gets boy, boy loses boy, boy regains boy. The turning points grind like clockwork, complete with flamboyant sidekicks who nurse heartache with flowers and romantic prose.
