Sean Penn Wins Oscar for "Milk" Acceptance Speech
"I think it's a good time for those who voted for the ban against gay marriage to sit and reflect on their great shame and their shame in their grandchildren's eyes if they continue that support. We've got to have equal rights for everyone."
第81回アカデミー賞。『ミルク』のショーン・ペン／Sean Penn が主演男優賞を獲得した。ガス・ヴァン・サント監督による映画『ミルク』（Milk）は、ゲイであることを公言して初めて米サンフランシスコ市評議委員に選出されたハーヴェイ・ミルク（Harvey Milk、1930 - 1978）の生涯を描いた伝記映画だ。
『ミルク』は、同時に、ダスティン・ランス・ブラック（Dustin Lance Black、b.1974）が脚本賞を受賞した。

ペンは受賞スピーチで「予想してなかった。私が自分の評価を難しくさせているのは分かっている」と述べた。
「ミルク」は、同性愛者であることを公言して初めて公職に当選し、１９７８年に暗殺されたカリフォルニア州のハーベイ・ミルクを描いた作品。
オスカー像を手にしたペンは、同性愛者同士の結婚禁止に賛成票を投じた人は恥ずべきで、「すべての人が平等の権利を持つべきだ」などと語った。

第81回アカデミー賞（Academy Awards）授賞式で、ゲイの権利活動家ハーベイ・ミルク（Harvey Milk）を描いた作品『ミルク（Milk）』が、オリジナル脚本賞を受賞した。
壇上に上がった脚本家のダスティン・ランス・ブラック（Dustin Lance Black）は、授賞式を見ているゲイやレズビアンの若者たちに語りかけた。
「周りの人間が何と言おうと、神は君たちを愛している。私は君たちに誓おう。近い将来、私たちのこの偉大な国の全土で、平等の権利が得られるようになると」

I want to thank my mom who has always loved me for who I am, even when there was pressure not to. But most of all, if Harvey had not been taken from us 30 years ago, I think he’d want me to say to all of the gay and lesbian kids out there tonight who have been told that they are less than by their churches or by the government or by their families that you are beautiful, wonderful creatures of value and that no matter what anyone tells you, God does love you and that very soon, I promise you, you will have equal rights, federally, across this great nation of ours.
