デペッシュ・モード／Depeche Mode のレア映像を見つけて狂喜乱舞している。例えば、
2曲続けて観ると、あからさまに「いい雰囲気」を持っているバンドだな、と思う。あからさまなリリックとファッションが、たまらない。《Just Can't Get Enough》は GAP のレザーアイテムをフューチャーした CM にも使われた。→ Gap, Everybody in Leather
で、久しぶりにその両曲が収録されているDMのデビューアルバム『Speak & Spell』（1981）を聴いた。

後年のグルーミーなアルバムと比べて、全体的に明るくポップでピコピコした音も全開で、なかなかいい。とりわけ《New Life》、《Puppets》、《Nodisco》、《Tora! Tora! Tora!》あたりの曲にはグッとくる。デイヴ・ガーン／Dave Gahan のヴォイスは、言うまでもなく魅力的だ。
ところで、知っている人も多いと思うけど、このデペッシュモードのデビューアルバムのタイトル『Speak & Spell』は、1970年代後半にテキサス・インスツルメンツ社 Texas Instruments より販売された子供の学習用機材"Speak & Spell" に由来している。Speak & Spell はロボットのような人工的音声を発する機械仕掛けの玩具で、子供はこれで楽しみながらアルファベットやスペルを学ぶ。

The toy was originally advertised as a tool for helping young children to become literate, learn to spell and learn the alphabet. The early Speak & Spell units were sold in 1978. Variants included the Speak & Read, which was yellow with blue and green accents and focused on reading comprehension, and the Speak & Math, which was grey with blue and orange and centered on mathematics.
A French Speak & Spell, La Dictée Magique, was sold primarily in Canada, while an Italian Grillo Parlante and German Buddy were sold in their respective countries. The German Buddy is particularly rare. The American version of Speak & Spell had an American accent and American spellings, and the British version used British spellings and had a British accent.
英語以外にも、フランス語やイタリア語、ドイツ語版スピーク&スペルもあった。さらに「英語」においては、米国用スペル＆アクセント（American version）と英国用スペル＆アクセント（British version）まで装備されていたという優れものだ。
子供だけではなく、ﾄﾞｲﾂﾉｵﾝｶﾞｸｶ クラフトワーク／Kraftwerk もこのオモチャで遊んでいる。
