アメリカのオレゴン州議会は、ゲイ＆レズビアン・カップルに結婚と同等の権利を与えるドメスティック・パートナーシップ法（Domestic Partnerships、「Bill 2007-A」）を、21対9の賛成多数により成立させた。
法案「2007-A」には、民主党議員だけではなく、二人の共和党議員も賛成票を投じた。

A bill giving Oregon's gay and lesbian couples the benefits of marriage through domestic partnerships won final legislative approval Wednesday.
The Senate endorsed the measure 21-9, sending it to Gov. Ted Kulongoski. The governor is a gay-rights supporter who says he will sign that bill along with another one passed earlier to ban discrimination based on sexual orientation.
The domestic partnership bill would enable same-sex couples to enter into contractual relationships that grant them the same benefits that state law offers to married couples.
The measure won unanimous endorsement from the Senate's majority Democrats, with two Republicans joining them.
When Kulongoski signs the measure, Oregon will join Vermont, Connecticut, California, New Jersey, Maine and Washington state in offering civil unions or domestic partnerships to same-sex couples.

『Stateman Journal』によれば、「シビル・ユニオン」ではなく「ドメスティック・パートナー」という用語の使用に不満を持つ一部のゲイ・ライツ活動家もいるようであるが、今回のオレゴン州の法律は、実質的に──それが「同性婚」、「シビル・ユニオン」、「ドメスティック・パートナー」と呼ばれようと──同性カップルは異性カップルとほぼ同等の法的保障が与えられるので、同州のゲイにとっては非常に歓迎すべきものである。
なぜならば「同性婚」（gay marriage）自体は、州憲法によって2004年に禁じられているからだ──したがって、反対派は「名前を変えた同性婚」であるとし「2007-A」法案に抗議しているという。

Some gay-rights advocates have complained about use of the term "domestic partnerships" rather than "civil unions." However, the bill grants same-sex couples a similar panoply of rights offered by other states, whether the term is gay marriage, civil unions or domestic partnerships. At a celebration after Wednesday's vote, Rep. Tina Kotek, D-Portland, the lone openly homosexual member of the Oregon Legislature, welcomed the news that Oregon Family Council won't seek a referendum. "Now we can just get on with our lives," she said.
