英対外情報部（ＭＩ６）は１３日、インターネット上で部員の募集を開始した。
ＭＩ６（正式名称ＳＩＳ）が公に人員を募集するのは１９０９年の創設以来初めて。これまでは主に、学生や軍の諜報部員を秘密裡に勧誘する方法に頼っていた。
諜報部員の活動について書かれたものは多く、ジェームズ・ボンドが活躍するイアン・フレミング原作のスパイ小説などが有名だが、ＭＩ６はウェブサイトに、「ＳＩＳの過去の記録は公開されていないにもかかわらず諜報活動の内容について書かれたものは多い。そのほとんどは不正確で誤解を招くものだ」との警告文を掲載。その上で、「作戦活動、情報分析、管理、データ処理・保全で自分の能力を生かせると思う人、ハイテク機器を設計もしくは敵対的な環境でそれを配備する能力がある人にはＳＩＳで活躍できるチャンスがある」と応募を呼びかけている。

MI6 says it needs people prepared to be deployed on frontline operations, but also those who would prefer to play vital supporting roles. "Whether you feel that your strengths could lead you towards operations, intelligence analysis, management, data handling or security, whether you have the skills to design hi-tech gadgets or to deploy them in a hostile environment, SIS may have the career for you," it says. The agency, it adds, is after people "not afraid to take well-calculated decisions under pressure".

MI6 boasts a "family atmosphere", and appeals for recruits with "an international outlook, interests and experience, who are adaptable, resourceful and flexible".

家族的な雰囲気（"family atmosphere",）か、MI6 は。そして国際的な視野……。
そういえば、先月のニュースに（Observer紙へのリークとして）、MI6 が急進過激派に対するインターネットを通じた「プロパガンダ作戦」を計画しているというのがあった。もしかしたら、その「プロジェクト」とも関連があるのかもしれない。

According to the Observer, the document reveals the security service was also looking at similar techniques used in Saudi Arabia and Egypt and was considering "exporting" them.
ただ、ＭＩ６への応募条件が、「５―１０年間英国に滞在している２１歳超の英国人で、広範囲に及ぶ身元調査に合格する必要がある」というので、僕はダメだな。
